COACHING STAFF

Spencer Stefko

Varsity Head Coach

The Tigers are led by ninth-year head coach Spencer Stefko. North Allegheny went 22-6 last season, and won the WPIAL 6A Championship for the sixth time. With five returning seniors this year, both Coach Stefko and the team are looking forward to another great season. Coach Stefko has led the Tigers to a 200-25 record. In his career of 17 seasons overall, he’s 376-88, and has been to the playoffs each of those seasons, claimed 14 section titles, in addition to capturing seven WPIAL titles and two PIAA titles.

In his 2015-16 inaugural season as Head Coach at NA, Stefko led the Tigers to the WPIAL Championship Game, and to the PIAA Final Four. He was also named the 2016 Harrisburg Patriot News AAAA Girls’ Coach of the Year for the state of Pennsylvania. Under Coach Stefko, the Tigers garnered their first WPIAL Championship Title since 1972, in 2016-17. The Tigers followed with titles in 2017-18; 2019-20; 2020-21 and last year’s championship in 2022-23.

In 2006, Stefko became the Head Girls’ Basketball Coach at Chartiers Valley High School. He continued in that role for the next seven seasons, winning four section titles and compiling a 127-51 record. The Lady Colts made the WPIAL Final Four three times (with a berth in the AAAA title game in 2013), and the PIAA Final Four three times. Following his successes at Chartiers Valley, Stefko continued his coaching career as Head Coach at Seton-La Salle Catholic HS, enjoying a run to the 2014 WPIAL and PIAA titles. In 2014, he was named as Harrisburg Patriot News AA Girls’ Coach of the Year for the state of Pennsylvania. In 2015, the Rebels won the WPIAL title, and reached the 2015 PIAA Championship Game.

Coach Stefko considers the privilege of working under the venerable Howie Ruppert (while Coaching Boys’ Varsity at Shaler HS) as his most significant and formative coaching experience.

In addition to coaching at the High School level, Stefko continues to volunteer as a coach for the Western PA Bruins AAU basketball program – which he has enjoyed doing since 2000.

Coach Stefko teaches World Cultures and American History at North Allegheny Intermediate High School. He holds an undergraduate degree from Notre Dame (B.S. – American Studies), and graduate degrees from Duquesne University (M.S. Ed. – Secondary Mathematics, M.S. Ed. – Secondary Social Studies).
